The concept of &#8220;continuing bonds&#8221; suggests that healthy grief does not mean breaking the bond with the deceased, but rather transforming it. <\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>Three types of connections:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>1. Unintended connections<\/strong> These occur spontaneously without the child&#8217;s conscious choice. Examples include: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"[&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Sudden memories of the deceased<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Feeling that the deceased person is still present<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Dreaming about the deceased<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>2. Intended connections<\/strong> Young people consciously look for ways to stay connected:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"[&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Visiting special places<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Keeping personal belongings<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Rituals such as lighting candles<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Talking to the deceased<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>3. Internalized connections<\/strong> The deceased becomes part of the child&#8217;s inner world:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"[&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Feeling that the deceased lives in their hearts<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Making decisions based on what the deceased would want<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Adopt values and characteristics of the deceased<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\"><strong>Implications:<\/strong> The research shows that continuing bonds can be a natural and healthy part of the grieving process in young people.
